Jochen Rindt, World Champion 1970
Jochen Rindt was a German racing driver who represented Austria during his career. Jochen made his formula one debut in 1964 at the Austrian Grand Prix for the Brabham-BRM team.

In 1965 he secured a drive with the Cooper-Climax team scoring his first points with a 4th place finish at the German GP ending the season in 13th place with 4 points.

Jochen remained with Cooper for 1966 and 1967. He achieved his first podium, a second place, at the 1966 Belgian GP finishing 3rd in the 1966 championship with 22 points.

However, the 1967 & 1968 seasons with Cooper and Brabham resp. were plagued with unreliability resulting in only an 11th place finish in the 1967 with 6 points and a 12th place finish in 1968 with 8 points.

Points for the 13 round season were awarded based upon the best 6 results from the first 7 races and the best 5 from the remaining 6 races.

With 9 points for each win, Jochen Rindt scored: - (9+9+9+9) + (9) = 45 Points.

During practice for the Italian GP, Jochens Lotus suffered a brake problem on the front right wheel at high speed which veered the car sharply into the barriers resulting in fatal injuries.

Despite there being 4 Grand Prix left in the season (including the Italian GP), Jochen had amassed sufficient points during the races he had competed in to become 1970 World Champion, the only Posthumous World Champion in the history of Formula One.

Jochen Rindt was killed during practice for the Italian Grand Prix.

Emerson Fittipaldi won his first Grand Prix at the United States GP on 4th October 1970.  430 700024 - Emerson Fittipaldi 1st Win, USA GP - 4th October 1970
